The dunes and ponds and rolling hills of Aquinnah gave her the chance to create a world where she could be so close to nature, close to her family and friends, and, most importantly, close to her beloved books.’ The 340-acre estate has more than a mile of private Atlantic Ocean beachfront with dunes, two freshwater ponds, as well as a vegetable garden and blueberry patch, outdoor pool, tennis court, a fairy treehouse. More on the treehouse: Jackie Kennedy Onassis built a fairy treehouse for her grandchildren in the gardens.  ‘Those grandchildren are grown so now it is time for us to follow my mother’s example and create our own worlds. We hope that a new family will treasure this place as we have for three generations. We are excited about the next chapter for Red Gate Farm,’ continues Caroline Kennedy. The two-story shingle-style guest house (above) is part of Jacobson’s original design and offers four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, and laundry room. Jackie’s dear friend Rachel ‘Bunny’ Mellon designed the estate’s landscapes. A noted horticulturist and landscape designer, Bunny Mellon had redesigned the White House Rose Garden when Mrs. Onassis was First Lady of the United States. Renowned architect Hugh Newell Jacobson designed the elegant Cape Cod-style main house and the two-story guest house, which were completed in 1981.  Caroline Kennedy has continued the legacy of Red Gate Farm. In 2000, she commissioned Deborah Berke, dean of the Yale School of Architecture, to renovate and expand the main residence, retaining its understated, timeless elegance. The property is listed via Christie’s for $65 million. You can view the property here (opens in new tab).
