The UK-based eccentric print and color house has collaborated with Louisa and Emily of Pierce & Ward to create a luxurious collection as a part of their ‘Fantasy Room’ project, and the maximalist pieces have already begun to make waves as maximalism remains one of the biggest interior design trends in the western world. After over a year of collaboration, the collection features a wallpaper, lampshade, cushion, and fabric based on a traditional House of Hackney print, but reimagined by the creative, West Coast minds of Louisa and Emily. ‘What drew us to Pierce & Ward (opens in new tab) was the magic they bring through their styling and the synergy between us of what a home should be,’ explains Frieda Gormley, co-founder of House of Hackney (opens in new tab). ‘We wanted to see what they would create with our prints if tasked with designing their ultimate ‘Fantasy Room’ - and what they dreamt up was nothing short of beautiful.’ The design duo delved head first into the House of Hackney archives to reimagine one of their prints in their unique aesthetic. The collection is ultimately inspired by House of Hackney’s original mythical ‘PHANTASIA’ print and reimagines fantastical motifs in a classic Pierce & Ward style, providing a masterclass in using pattern and print. The original PHANTASIA collection was initially available in six colorways, with the print inspired by the bold and wildly beautiful gardens and ancient woodland that surrounds House of Hackney co-founders Frieder Gormley and Javvy M. Royle’s Cornish home, the Castle of Trematon, and the aesthetic beauty of their life in the Cornish countryside. The duo’s reimagination of the print added a floral wonderland of mythical beasts amongst clouds of color, flowers, and toadstools in a subtle neutral palette. The addition of stripes and chic polka dots introduces a contemporary feel to the pieces and makes the pattern wonderful for bold wallpaper ideas. ‘We have always felt that romances can be made richer, inspirations cleaner, and futures brighter if surrounded by undeniable beauty. It was breathtaking seeing the print come alive once we’d decorated a full room in it,’ says Louisa Pierce, co-founder of Pierce & Ward. “No one project is the same for us. Your home is a space that says so much about you as a person, somewhere you can truly be yourself, and so we always encourage our clients to build a room with objects they adore, that reflect who they are and what they love. Just how House of Hackney encourages people to decorate, there is no hard and fast rule when designing your home, it’s whatever makes your heart sing,’ continues Emily Ward, co-founder of Pierce & Ward, speaking on the design partnership. The collection, true to House of Hackney’s B Corp status and both parties’ commitment to plant and people, is made using only sustainable materials and methods, with each piece sold directly benefiting House of Hackney’s partnership with World Land Trust. The sales will allow the House of Hackney to purchase and protect 35 square meters of forest. The pop-up takes a little corner of East London to LA between the 31st of August and the 31st of December, with the UK-based House of Hackney breaking into the LA design scene. A pop-up will also be hosted in Pierce & Wards’ revered Los Feliz store until 31st December and the collection run on House of Hackney’s global online store for the next six months. A House of Hackney decorating & design expert will also be on hand for the first two weeks to host appointments and offer styling advice at the Pierce & Ward store. The pop-ups will showcase and sell a range of House of Hackney’s most popular pieces such as lamps and soft furnishings, and will allow LA residents to browse a selection from their esteemed maximalist collections.
